A dark Choose Your Own Adventure-style interactive fiction game about young love and time travel. Reader discretion advised.
Written by Greg McClanahan (on his free time outside of work, before you criticize his priorities) and art by Michael Swain. All music is from the Kongregate Collabs, courtesy of Asteroid Blues, Ed Brew and Robotaki.
This thing took forever to write, and I think I broke some blood vessels in my brain trying to keep all the parallel scenarios consistent with what can actually be changed via player choices. I hope you enjoy it -- feel free to leave comments about what you enjoyed and what sucks for if I decide to write another one later (yeah, I know, TL;DR... the full text is something like 80 pages, but there are plenty of other instantly fun games on the site).
Im sure there are typos -- whisper me if you find any.UpdatesUpdate: Thanks for the comments, everyone. Theres a discussion thread here where Ill try to answer any questions about the story: http://www.kongregate.com/forums/3-general-gaming/topics/117496-thousand-dollar-soul
Update #2: No badges unless the rating goes up substantially. You guys would never let me hear the end of it if I made a special exception for myself. :-P
Update #3: Im currently in the early brainstorming phase of a second game, but who knows if Ill actually follow through with it! Here are the plans so far:
- Completely different themes/settings/characters/etc.
- Protagonist will be far more normal, with as much personality as possible defined by player choices (possibly even name/gender)
- Much lighter tone, shooting for humor, but thats way harder to pull off than dark :(
- Way less text between player choices
